Real Madrid winger Rodrygo has returned to first-team training putting him in contention to be available for the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg against Barcelona.

The 22-year-old suffered an upper leg injury during his side’s Champions League round of 16 first leg against Liverpool last Tuesday and was expected to be out of action for 10 days.

But the Brazilian is now training with Carlo Ancelotti’s squad and should he be able to take part tomorrow, he could be fit in time for Thursday’s Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Austria international David Alaba is also progressing well with his injury and is expected to return to action within three weeks.

Alaba, 30, was also injured during Real Madrid’s encounter against Liverpool after coming off in the 27th minute due to a hamstring problem.

Left-back Ferland Mendy is also making positive steps towards a full recovery, having been ruled out for two months in January due to a thigh injury he sustained against Atletico Madrid. He could be back in a fortnight.

Real Madrid have the chance to build more momentum with a victory against Barcelona, which takes place before an important La Liga clash against Real Betis this Sunday.
